Historical Development of Digital Devices - 

The Abacus — The World's First Calculator: The Abacus is widely considered the oldest calculating device in the world. It was invented around 2700 BCE in ancient Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq) and later developed further in China, where it became very popular. The Abacus looks like a rectangular wooden frame with rows of rods or wires. Each rod holds beads that can be slid from one side to another. The word "hardware" simply refers to the physical parts of a computer — the parts you can actually touch and feel. If you can pick it up, plug it in, or press it, it is most likely hardware. Computer hardware is different from software.
