Digital Tech Notes (JSS1 - SS3)

JSS 1 - DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES NOTES

  First Term Materials

Lesson 1

Introduction to Digital Technology -

Meaning of Digital Technology: The word digital comes from the Latin word digitus, meaning finger. In technology, "digital" refers to information that is stored, processed, or communicated using numbers — specifically the numbers 0 and 1, which computers use as a kind of language called binary code...  👉 Click here for the complete note.

Lesson 2

Historical Development of Digital Devices -

The Abacus — The World's First Calculator: The Abacus is widely considered the oldest calculating device in the world. It was invented around 2700 BCE in ancient Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq) and later developed further in China, where it became very popular. The Abacus looks like a rectangular wooden frame with rows of rods or wires. Each rod holds beads that can be slid from one side to another. By moving these beads in specific patterns, a user can perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and even division.  👉 Click here for the complete note.

Lesson 3
Career Opportunities in Information Technology -

SOFTWARE CAREERS: Software is the set of instructions that tells a computer what to do. Every app, website, and program you use is built by software professionals. Software careers are among the most popular and well-paying in the world today. Software Developer or Programmer: A software developer writes the code that creates programs and applications. For example, the people who built Paystack — a Nigerian online payment platform — are software developers. They wrote the code that allows millions of Nigerians to pay for goods and services online safely... 👉 Click here for the complete note.

Lesson 4

Basic Computer Hardware Components I -

The word "hardware" simply refers to the physical parts of a computer — the parts you can actually touch and feel. If you can pick it up, plug it in, or press it, it is most likely hardware. Computer hardware is different from software. Software is the set of programmes and instructions that tell the computer what to do — things like Microsoft Word, Google Chrome, or a game you play. You cannot hold software in your hands. But hardware? You can see it, carry it, and — unfortunately — break it if you are not careful. 👉 Click here for the complete note.

Lesson 5 -

Basic Computer Hardware Components II – JSS 1

STORAGE UNIT: A storage unit in a computer is any hardware component that is used to store data, information, or instructions — either temporarily or permanentlyThink of storage the same way you think of your school bag. Your bag holds your textbooks, notebooks, pens, and other items you need throughout the day. Similarly, a computer's storage unit holds programs, files, photos, videos, and operating system instructions that the computer needs to function... 👉 Click here for the complete note.

Lesson 6 -

Basic Software Concepts — JSS 1

DEFINITION OF SOFTWARE: Software is a collection of programs, data, and instructions that enable a computer to perform specific tasks. It serves as the bridge between the user and the computer hardware, allowing humans to communicate with machines in a way the machines can understand and act upon. Software is broadly divided into two major categories: - System Software - Application Software...  👉 Click here for the complete note.

Lesson 7 -

How to Boot and Shut Down a Computer Safely

BOOTING A PC: The word "booting" might sound unusual, but it simply means the process of starting up a computer. When you switch on a computer, it does not just wake up like a person jumping out of bed. It goes through a series of internal checks and loading steps before it is ready for you to use. The full process is called booting or the boot process. The name actually comes from an old English saying, "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps," which means starting something from scratch. That is exactly what a computer does — it builds itself up from nothing every time you turn it on... 👉 Click here for the complete note.

Lesson 8 -

Introduction To MS Word For JSS 1

MICROSOFT WORD: Microsoft Word is a word processing application developed by Microsoft Corporation. It is part of the Microsoft Office Suite, which also includes Excel (for spreadsheets), PowerPoint (for presentations), and other useful programs. A word processor is simply a software program that allows you to type, edit, arrange, and print text on a computer. Think of it as a very powerful and neat typewriter — but with so many more features that make your work look professional and clean... 👉 Click here for the complete note.
